Welcome to our second newsletter for 2024 and only a few days to go until we kick off! I'm sure the excitement is building and we are all ready to watch some great rugby. You will notice in the draw the Colts are playing before the Prem's so it would be great if those intending to watch the Prem's could get along and support this new team. The Prem's played Paraparaumu RFC recently for the Cooper Memorial Trophy in memory of Renee Cooper. The score was 33-12 to our Hawk's. Well done guys.
This weekend the game between the Prem's and OBU will be played for a new trophy kindly donated by Bill Cavubati. Bill played rugby for both clubs as well as the Wellington Lions, Hurricanes and Fiji. Thanks Big Bill, we're sure this will be a strongly contested trophy.
This week's games
An action packed first round see's four of our sides take on OBU and a solid scattering of matches across Wellington.
It is always interesting seeing the player movements around the traps for the upcoming club season. Article below for those interested;
What else is going on?
We recently had a function at the club of which Sir Peter Leitch was a guest. He was given a JRFC top to hang with all his league jerseys. It was a very unexpected surprise and he was very happy to receive it.
A change at the club this season. For the last few seasons any food left from the teams meals we have been happy to let other members enjoy free. With the rising cost of food alongside increasing expenses with running the club we have decided this year we will plate the meals up and they may be purchased from the kitchen.
This Saturday, 6 April, the club will be open. The Cripples are at home so for those sticking closer to home, get up there!
That's it for now, we hope you all had a nice easter and we are looking forward to seeing you all at the club on the 13th of April.
All the best to all the teams for their first games. Stay safe out there.
Cherie & Trina.
